Meet the Faculty
Andrea Whipple

English and Independent Study Teacher
The goal for the ninth, tenth, and Independent Study students of Andrea Whipple is that they become proficient in the formal use of the English language in writing, reading, and speaking. It is expected that with improving their English language skills, that they will become more proficient in ALL of their subject areas and take away from their class the ability "to learn to learn anything." Also, it is expected that they will grow in confidence and become independent thinkers as they mature into positive and productive adults, who will be proud of their present and future accomplishments.
The students are being instructed by someone who "loves to teach," as Andrea's kindergarten and first grade playmates had to "play school" with orange-crate desks and children's chairs. Andrea was the teacher and earned her degree in English at Madonna University; 30 additional semester hours in English from the University of Detroit; MA in Administration at the University of Michigan; and everything except completing the dissertation (ran out of money) for an EDD from the University of Southern California. Many other semester hours have been earned in Spanish, Journalism, and Juvenile Justice. This is the 47th year of educational experience from being an instructor in the classroom, to principal, to Superintendent to county office of education experience as well as recently administrating RVIT Head Start for three years. Additionally, Andrea has been a Camp Director (6 years); Pow Wow circuit dancer (10 years) and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
