Math and Spanish Teacher
I come to Round Valley with a broad spectrum of experiences and a desire to continue to learn from the world around me. Education is most important in its capacity for empowerment and my goal is to help students find their voice and the tools that they need to evaluate the world around them.
I graduated from UC
Santa Cruz in 1992 with a B.A. in Film/Theater Arts, also having
studied Biochemistry. I have taken over 25 units of Education
courses beyond my credentialing program through CSUMB and
continuously research better teaching practices that relate to my
work here in the valley. Math as a subject was strength of mine in
school and my applied math skills were used extensively while
working as a grocery buyer and computer systems manager at a large
health food store for over 10 years. I became fluent in Spanish
when I left the country in 1998 living and travelling throughout
Mexico, Central America, Spain and South America for almost 10
years.
My experiences abroad include; volunteering in remote villages in Chiapas, Mexico where I taught Spanish to young Tsotsil children, following the path of the pyramids and temples of the Maya and earlier civilizations throughout southern Mexico and Central America, living in El Salvador where I taught English and worked with a nonprofit organization, traveling around Spain performing at music festivals, living in a Shipibo village in the Amazon jungle, and just prior to moving to Covelo, living 12,000 feet up into the Andes in Cuzco, Peru - gateway to the sacred valley, the ruins of Machu Picchu, and home of the Quechua people.
