Paleotechnics: 9th & 4th Grade work with Tamara Wilder

On October 22, Tamara Wilder, from Paleotechnics (www.paleotechnics.com) came to Round Valley High School to work with our freshman class.  Starting during 4th period, Tamara worked with the freshman class, teaching them how to drill and shape beads out of soap stone.  Students were also taught how to make string out of dogbane, by breaking the spine of the dogname, taking half of the stick and separating the bark from the inside and then using a twist to create the string.  Beads made by students were then hung on the strings.

In the afternoon, after lunch, Tamara worked with the 9th and 4th grade classes.  She demonstrated how to made fire, using wood and a drill.  She also demonstrated the use of weapons, like the bow and arrow, spear, and atlatls and the students were able to practice using these weapons.
