Principal Robert Van Buuren

RVEMS Principal

  • I would like to introduce myself to you and welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. I have been a math, science and technology teacher on the Mendocino coast for many years. I moved to Mendocino County after graduating from San Francisco State University and have raised a family here, and I appreciate the challenges and opportunities that our rural lifestyle offers. Since earning my administrative credential from Humboldt State University it has been my desire to become a principal at a small, rural school district and I am delighted to have found this opportunity in Round Valley.  I feel deeply honored to serve the children, families and community of Round Valley and look forward to supporting our excellent staff in creating a safe, engaging and nurturing environment in which our students can reach their full potential.

We will provide a rigorous academic program which holds our students to high academic and behavioral standards and which encourages them to develop perseverance and creativity in meeting challenges and ultimately encourages students to take charge of their own learning and grow into young adults capable of managing their own responsibilities and steering their own course in life.

Children learn best when their families are closely involved in their education, and to this end we encourage parents to participate in their student’s daily school life. Please make sure that your children come to school every day, on time and ready to learn. Check with them after school and let them tell you what they learned that day.  Ask to see their school work and let them explain it to you. Read to them, and let them read to you. When children see that their parents and family value their education, they will learn to value it themselves.

We would also like to encourage parents to visit, participate and volunteer in our many school activities as much as possible. Together we can create a vibrant learning community in which our children can thrive.

Please read the student handbook; this will let you know what to expect during the school year and will answer many of the questions that you may have. If you have any unanswered questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to any teacher or staff member. We look forward to working with you to make this a healthy, happy and productive school year.
