Round Valley Unified School District's Technology department supports the devices, networks, and digital tools that power teaching and learning across our schools.

About Technology

The Technology department supports the digital infrastructure of Round Valley Unified School District, including student and staff devices, classroom technology, network and internet services, instructional software, and student data privacy. Our work supports learning at Round Valley Elementary, Round Valley High School, and Yolla Bolly, with a focus on providing reliable, age-appropriate, and secure tools for students and educators.

Student Technology

Round Valley students have access to a range of technologies that support learning, accessibility, and college and career readiness.

Chromebooks. Chromebook carts are available in every classroom across the district, providing students with daily access to devices for writing, research, collaboration, and digital curriculum. Round Valley is not a 1:1 take-home district; devices stay at school under classroom-based use. Students enrolled in Independent Study programs may sign a take-home agreement to use a district-issued Chromebook outside of school.

Interactive Displays. Classrooms across the district are equipped with interactive displays that allow teachers to deliver dynamic, visual lessons and students to engage directly with content at the front of the room.

Assistive Technology. Round Valley provides assistive technology to support students with disabilities and other learning needs, in alignment with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 plan. Assistive technology may include screen readers, speech-to-text and text-to-speech tools, alternative input devices, magnification software, communication devices, and specialized software. Decisions about assistive technology are made by each student's IEP or 504 team in collaboration with families.

Career Technical Education Technology. Round Valley High School's CTE pathways provide students with hands-on access to industry-aligned tools and equipment that prepare them for college and career. Current pathways and supporting technology include:

• Agriculture. Students access tools and equipment for plant and animal science, agricultural mechanics, and supervised agricultural experiences, including digital record-keeping platforms used by FFA members to track projects and proficiencies.
• Health Sciences. Students learn with medical simulation equipment, anatomy and physiology resources, and clinical skills tools that introduce them to careers in nursing, allied health, and medicine.
• Child Development. Students engage with early childhood education materials, observation and assessment tools, and resources that prepare them for careers in early childhood education and human services.
• Web Design. Students develop real-world skills in web development, design, and content management using industry-standard tools and platforms. Web Design students contribute directly to district projects, including ongoing work on the Round Valley Unified School District website.

Digital Wellbeing

Round Valley Unified School District is committed to supporting healthy, balanced, and safe technology use among our students. We believe that technology is a powerful tool for learning, and that students also benefit from clear guidance, strong family support, and time away from screens.

Round Valley draws on Common Sense Education resources to support digital citizenship and online safety conversations with students. Common Sense offers age-appropriate lessons on privacy, online safety, media literacy, and responsible technology use.

• StopBullying.gov — Federal resources on recognizing, preventing, and responding to bullying and cyberbullying.

Families are encouraged to talk with their students about how they use technology, set healthy limits at home, and reach out to school staff if concerns arise.

Cell Phones in School

Round Valley Unified School District maintains a districtwide expectation that student cell phones are to be off and away during class time. This policy supports student focus, learning, and connection in the classroom.

This expectation is reflected in Board Policy 5131.8 (Mobile Communication Devices) and is consistent with California's Phone-Free School Act (AB 3216), which requires all California school districts to adopt a policy limiting or prohibiting student smartphone use during the school day by July 1, 2026.

Research and educator experience consistently show that limiting phone access during instruction improves student attention, academic engagement, and peer interaction.

Families with questions about the cell phone policy, or about how to reach their student during the school day, should contact their school's main office.

Technology Support for Staff

Round Valley's Technology team is here to support educators in using technology effectively for teaching and learning. Whether you need help troubleshooting a device, connecting to the network, setting up a new platform, configuring a classroom display, or thinking through how to integrate a tool into your instruction, our team wants to hear from you.

How to get support. The fastest way to reach the Technology team is by phone, email, or stopping by the Technology office. Please include the school site, location, device or platform involved, and a brief description of the issue. For urgent issues that affect instruction or student access, contact the Technology office immediately and notify your site administrator.

What we support. This includes student and staff Chromebooks, classroom interactive displays, printers and copiers, network and Wi-Fi connectivity, Google Workspace for Education, Aeries and other district platforms, instructional software, account access and password resets, and classroom technology setup for new tools or lessons.

Software requests. If you're interested in using a new software platform or online tool with students, please contact the Technology department before introducing it in your classroom. We will work with you to vet the tool for student data privacy compliance and ensure it meets California's CSDPA requirements. We aim to make this process quick and supportive — the goal is to help you bring the right tools into your classroom, not to slow you down.

Professional learning. The Technology team is also available to support staff with informal coaching, demonstrations, and help building confidence with new tools. Reach out if you'd like one-on-one support or want to bring a topic to a staff meeting or professional development day.

We appreciate staff partnership in keeping our technology environment effective and secure. No request is too small, and early communication helps us prioritize and respond well.
