About Transportation

The Transportation department provides daily bus service for students attending Round Valley Elementary, Round Valley High School, and Yolla Bolly. Our team of drivers, monitors, and support staff prioritizes student safety, reliable service, and positive partnerships with families across the Round Valley community.

Transportation serves students living within the District's service area, including stops along the major routes into and around Covelo. Our drivers are trained, certified, and committed to making the ride to and from school a safe and welcoming part of each student's day.

Forms and Resources

The following forms and resources support student transportation and staff use of District vehicles.

Coming soon. Transportation forms — including bus registration, route change requests, special transportation arrangements, and District van request forms — will be posted here as they are finalized. In the meantime, families and staff may contact the Transportation department directly to request the appropriate form.

Riding the Bus: Expectations

Bus transportation is a privilege, and safe rides depend on cooperation from students, families, and drivers. Round Valley expects all bus riders to:

  • Arrive at the bus stop on time and wait safely away from the road
  • Follow driver directions and remain seated while the bus is moving
  • Treat the driver, other students, and the bus itself with respect
  • Keep aisles clear and avoid behavior that could distract the driver
  • Use appropriate language and volume while on the bus

Persistent behavior that endangers the safety of students or the driver may result in loss of bus privileges, in accordance with Board Policy.

Families with questions or concerns about bus behavior are encouraged to contact the Transportation department or their student's school site.

Special Transportation

Round Valley provides specialized transportation for students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) identifies transportation as a related service. Special transportation is coordinated between the Transportation department, school site staff, and each student's IEP team to ensure safe and appropriate service.

Families with questions about specialized transportation should contact their student's case manager or the District Office.

Weather, Delays, and Cancellations

Round Valley occasionally experiences weather, road, or other conditions that affect bus service or require schedule changes. When delays or cancellations occur, the District communicates with families through ParentSquare, school site phone calls, and updates on the District website and social media.

Families are encouraged to ensure their ParentSquare contact information is current so that weather and emergency communications reach them promptly.

District Vans

In addition to bus service, Round Valley Unified School District maintains a fleet of vans used to transport students and staff for field trips, athletic events, CTE activities, professional development, and other approved District purposes.

Requesting a van. Staff requesting use of a District van must follow the established request process. Details coming soon. In the meantime, staff should contact the Transportation department for current request procedures, availability, and driver certification requirements.

Driver requirements. Staff who drive District vans must meet District and state requirements for authorized drivers. Contact the Transportation department or Human Resources for information on becoming an authorized District driver.
